Justine Rukeba

Executive Director

Justine Rukeba

Justine M. RUKEBA brings to Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo over 20 years of experience in community development in both the social profit and the private sector at the national and international level. A human rights lawyer with passion for social justice, Justine is widely recognized for her expertise for developing gender and diversity inclusive policies and programs. Justine’s career spans progressive roles in Afghanistan, South Sudan, Egypt, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, Canada, USA, South Africa, and Mauritius. She has worked for Deloitte, USAID, Global Rights, UN WOMEN, UNAIDS, American Bar Association and The World Bank. She is the recipient of the Peace Woman of the Year 2015 Award.

Justine holds a master’s degree in international Law from American University Washington College of Law and she is a graduate of the Executive Leadership from Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government. Justine is been invited on international platforms as keynote speaker, panelist, and facilitator to generate dialogue on a variety of global social justice matters and social issues facing the world today.


Program Manager

Jamie Desautels

Jamie Desautels moved to Fort McMurray from Edmonton where she completed a degree in Nutrition and Food Science at the University of Alberta. Jamie is well traveled across 9 East and South African countries including Tanzania. In addition to travel, food and language are two other ways she immerses herself in culture. When Jamie is not cooking or trying to learn another language she enjoys rock climbing and doing pottery. Jamie is also a proud candidate of the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation’s 2016 Top 30 Under 30. With her experience in non-profit organizations over the last three summers managing health promotion and capacity building projects in rural Tanzania, she brings a wealth of expertise to her role as Program Manager.

Rodas Asres

Rodas Asres is originally from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She moved to Canada to pursue an undergraduate degree at McMaster University. Having finished her Chemical Engineering in Process Controls, she moved to Fort McMurray in search of a fulfilling career. Rodas enjoys volunteering and working for non-for-profit organizations and believes in making tangible positive change in her community. Rodas enjoys playing volleyball and board games, reading books and taking long walks in scenic areas. She loves learning about different cultures and constantly surrounds herself with a multicultural set of friends. She speaks Amharic and English fluently, is a certified interpreter and her energy and enthusiasm are an asset in her role as Event and Volunteer Coordinator.

Neha Gandhi

Originally from India, Neha has been volunteering in the community in different capacities. Neha has travelled extensively and is proficient in 4 languages. An aspiring poet and short story writer, her work has been featured in RMWB' s Words In Motion. Having taught elementary school children for three years and raised two of her own, Neha brings her rich experience to the After School Tutorial Program at Timberlea Public School. Due to popular demand, Neha also runs an After School Gujarati Club at the school on Wednesdays.

Katherine Arellano

Katherine Arellano from Lima-Peru brings her degree in Childhood education to her role as ASTP Coordinator.She moved from Europe to Canada to work as a caregiver. Since then, she fell in love with this beautiful country. She have been volunteering for The Multicultural Association for about two years, dancing, sharing a bit of her Peruvian culture, learning about other cultures as well and enjoying every bit of it. Having the opportunity to work with MCA and contribute a bit to this community is a blessing to Kathy. In her own words, "Thank you so much Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo for helping newcomers to feel at home."
